Choosing paper for your product

Understand paper types and match them to the intended use.

Start with the intended use

Describe how the product will be packed, stored, transported and opened before choosing a paper colour or finish. Product weight, dimensions and stacking plans give the supplier a clearer starting brief.

Compare material and structure together

Similar-looking papers may differ in thickness, texture and folding behaviour. Request physical samples and assess them alongside the proposed carton structure rather than choosing from photographs alone.

Consider printing and finishing

Share the logo, colour references and intended visual treatment. Ask the supplier to assess the material and printing approach together. Review a sample before confirming additional finishes or surface treatments.

Check a sample before approval

Pack the actual product and review closure, handling and arrangement. Where there are special requirements, such as food contact or a particular environment, request relevant information and evidence directly from the supplier. An illustrative image does not certify material performance.
